Swine Flu and the allusion of control

We received the government advice on swine flu through our door the other day. It basically says what my mum said to me when I was 2: use a tissue when you sneeze!

I’m pretty sure swine flu is coming, swine flu is contagious, swine flu is horrible – its flu. But ultimately – swine flu can’t be controlled!

I suspect we get these leaflets through our doors only because the government has to be “seen to do something”, when actually it knows it can do nothing. Does this leaflet expose how control is a modern day idol?

When swine flu comes, and when people die – I won’t blame the government – they are powerless with flu – I’ll blame the fact we all have to die. And I might be mildly annoyed with the swine!
